J.T.S. COSTINGS INSTRUCTIONS
Welcome to J.T.S. Costings. This program is designed to
calculate seat selling prices for Tour Operators who purchase
blocks of seats over a series of weekly holiday flights at a
fixed price per seat.
So that you can quickly evaluate the program the shareware
version is supplied with several carriers, departure and
destination airfields pre loaded.
J.T.S. Costings is fairly self explanatory. However there are a
couple of things you should know before you start. Firstly the
date format is pre set to European (Day/Month/Year). North
American users should reset this. You reset the date format at
"Date format + Options" on the Utilities Menu. You should also
select the appropriate printer driver and set the paper type in
use - also from the Utilities menu.
Throughout the system the * is used as a wildcard for making
selections. To choose a carrier, departure or destination
airfield just type * and press return. All available selections
will then be listed for you to choose from.
Here's how it works:-
When you add a new series (Item 4 Main Menu) a table is created
calculating the selling price per seat for each flight. This
selling price is based on default values of:-
Target Profit 15%
Commission to agents 12.5%
Overheads 8.00
Tax 14.00
Load Factor 95%
You can create the table using either zero price bias, in which
case the price for each flight will be the same, or with the
supplied "Summer 6 Month" bias, in which case the prices will
be weighted for a typical British summer season of 26 flight
rotations.
The selling prices are always rounded to the nearest 9 or 4 so
the default target profit will not always be achieved exactly.
Once the default table has been written you can view or print
it (Item 1 on the main menu). This shows you your selling
prices and net profit. You can then make alterations to all the
variables, Selling price, load factor, tax, overhead and
commission payed to agents over any number of the flights in
the series at item 2 "Alterations" on the main menu.
Whenever you make alterations you simply re run "Current Series
Report" to check how they have affected your profit figure.
................................................................................
You can add as many series as you wish. If you wish to recheck
a series you can re select it at item 3 on the main menu.
Again, selection is made using the * as a wildcard.
Item 5 on the main menu lists all the flight series in order of
profit percent.
To cost a flight series select item 4 "Add a new series". You
will note that the top two fields "Price Bias" and "Season"
fill automatically with the last used selections. If you wish
to change them then take the cursor into the fields and select
using * return. In the shareware version there are two price
bias tables, zero bias and summer 6 month. In the professional
version you can create your own price bias tables. The only
reason that flight series are allocated to a "Season" is so
that you can bulk delete all series for any particular season
once your costings are complete.
Enter your code for the series then select the carrier,
departure and destination airfields. Enter the number of seats
you are purchasing on each flight and the buying price per
seat. Enter the number of rotations and the date of the first
flight. If you wish to see the result of the "Summer 6 Month"
price bias table then it is designed for a 26 rotation series
starting April or May.
When you have filled all the fields, press F2 to create the
default table then print it out (Current Series Report).
You can now fine tune your costings by altering any of the
entries in any of the default value columns and by changing the
pre calculated selling prices. To make alterations, select item
2 from the main menu. All alterations are made to the currently
selected series and the value being altered is automatically
recalled as a default when you enter the "Alterations" routine.
In other words, if the last alteration was to "Seat Prices"
then the routine will start with "Seat Prices" pre selected in
the first field. If this is not what you wish to alter then
move the cursor into the field and press F1 to change. The
values which can be changed are:-
Selling Price
Load Factor
Overheads
Agents Commission
Number of Seats Bought
Tax
Buying Price per Seat
Having chosen the value which you wish to change you then
select the flight dates that the new value is to apply to in
the "From" and "To" fields. Again, use * return to select the
................................................................................
flight dates. The "Alterations" routine repeats until you press
the escape key so you can make any number of alterations. To
see how your alterations have affected your profit at any time,
exit from alterations and reprint the current series report.
The Carriers, Departure and Destinations pre loaded in the
system can all be changed to the ones you use, with the
routines on the "Set up Routines" menu
We hope you enjoy using J.T.S. Costings.
The shareware program is supplied to you "On Approval". If you
find it useful, please register your use and pay the licence
fee. Alternatively, you can purchase the non shareware (Pro.)
version. The Pro. version has two major advantages over the
shareware version.
1. You can supply your own values for Target Profit, Standard
commission, Default Overhead, Default Tax and Default Load
Factor which are used by the "Add New Series" routine.
2. You can create your own price bias tables. Using a
suitable price bias table on the initial table print can
save you a great many alterations.
